2012

This coming year, I am going to take the advice of a dear friend:

1. Spend the rest of my college career with people I love and care about.

2. Do it for ME.

:)

Bring it ON 2012.

Home

Well I’m back from London. Back home.

I wrapped up my final month in Europe with a day trip to Paris and a weekend trip to Marseille and finished with my final weeks in London. I ate a lot of French pastries, drank French wine, dipped my feet in the Mediterranean Sea, and wandered the streets of London.  I saw a French mass at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, walked up the Eiffel Tower at 11:11, 11/11/11, and saw the fish market of Marseille.  I was so pleased to have finished my travels in Europe with my trip to Marseille.  It was a beautiful port city, right on the water and we had beautiful weather! It was the perfect last weekend trip.

Then I got to finish up my to-do list in London.  I saw Hampstead Heath - a beautiful park in Northern London - and saw Parliament Hill which had an amazing view of the entire city.  I also walked Brick Lane and Spitalfields Market for the last time and haggled down the price on curry for dinner.  I went to Gordon’s Wine Bar, bought lots of tea at the Twining’s Tea Shop, saw the Somerset House Ice Skating Rink, wandered Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, walked down Fleet Street and got a pint at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, stood on the Prime Meridian in Greenwich Park, went to church at Westmister Abbey, and did lots of other London touristy things.  I also saw War Horse as my final show in London.  It was incredible! I loved the puppetry.  It was such fantastic artistry.

And after an incredible 4 months, I had to say goodbye.  Goodbye to Brechin Place, goodbye to Gloucester Rd., goodbye to the most amazing semester of my life! And it’s time to re-adjust to home life.  I’m coping with Starbucks, The Hunger Games series, Netflix, and Pinterest. It is fantastic to see my family but I miss the hustle and bustle of the streets of London.  But for now, cheers to looking for a master’s program abroad. Oh and I hope everyone is having very merry holiday!

Here. I will be at this monument at 11:11 on 11/11/11. I will be making the biggest, most epic wish of my life.  I cannot wait.  I am spending a whole day in Paris eating croissants, drinking French wine, and wandering the streets of this beautiful city. It’s sinking in that my time here in Europe is dwindling and it is making me appreciate everything about this place even more. There are days that I get homesick for my parents or I miss my mom’s cooking and my dad’s jokes and my brother’s stories.  But I will see them soon and for now I have to live it up.  There are less than 10 weeks left here and I will make the most of them.  Time to check things off my long “London To-Do List.”

Home is where one starts from. As we grow older the world becomes stranger, the pattern more complicated of dead and living.

Ireland.  Oh my goodness.  What an amazing, beautiful experience.  We went to pubs and heard live Irish music, we wandered the streets of Dublin, we crossed an old rope bridge and saw the Giant’s Causeway.  I could not have asked for a more amazing, inspirational weekend.  And the kindness of everyone we met there blew me away.  I have never felt so welcomed or at home in a foreign place before in my life.  And even though it rained the entire weekend we were there it didn’t seem to bother me or crush the Irish zen-like feeling I had.  I want to go back.  I miss how I felt when I was there and I miss the people.  Somehow I found my place there and I cannot wait to revisit.

I love this quote. I saw it somewhere online and I am stealing it. It is so true. Life in Europe is wonderful. I love traveling around London and pretty soon I will be traveling throughout the countries here! Friday is the first day of our fall break and that Monday I’m heading off to Rome, Italy with a couple friends! I cannot express how excited I am to see this city and explore it and to eat lots of Italian food!
I am unbelievably lucky to be living here, in London, England, until December. Everything about London seems to agree with me and we have had incredible weather the past couple of days! Yesterday was the warmest day London has ever had on October 1st - 80 degrees or so! It has been lovely! In short, life is good and I know I will have to come back to Europe in my life. 4 months simply is not enough time to see everything I want to see. But then again, neither is a lifetime. It’s hard to accept that not everything on my to-do list will be checked off before I go, but I suppose it’s always nice to have a reason to come back!
Ta ta for now. :)

So I realize that in the past 4 posts or so I have only talked about my travel plans…and I am really excited…but I am also excited to finish off this weekend!

Today there isn’t much to do except homework since it’s the West End’s dark day and there is no Portobello Market like there was yesterday (amazing!).  So I’ll probably end up finishing lots of homework and walking around one of the stunning Royal Parks.

Tomorrow, however, should be very interesting! I am going to go to the TKTS booth in Leceister Square to see what the deals are on cheap tickets in the West End (specifically tickets to see GHOST). Then at 3:00, Katie and I are planning on heading to Pineapple Dance Studios and taking a 2 and a half hour jazz class/work out! It’s going to kick my butt in every way and it shall be amazing. I cannot wait.  :)

Here’s hoping I can get a cheap ticket to see the new musical: Ghost!
